SMOB Election Results

Thu, 05/02/2024 - 9:11pm

On Wednesday, May 1st all middle and high schools voted in the election for Student Member of the Board of Education between Antonio Clay-Hardy of Wilde Lake High School and James Obasiolu of Atholton High School.  James Obasiolu won the election with the majority of votes cast.

We appreciate the care, dignity, and gracious professionalism that both candidates shared with each other and the students of HCPSS throughout the SMOB election.  Both serve as models for public leadership and civic engagement and HCPSS is fortunate to count these students in our community.

Antonio’s concession message-

Dear HCPSS-
I want to first start by thanking each and every student that makes up the Howard County Public School System, you are the reason I am here in this position today. Next, I want to thank James Obasiolu for his kindness and professionalism during the campaign. Lastly, I would like to thank the wonderful and hardworking members of the Election Coordinating Committee. Their work is incredibly vital and important. While this journey has come to a close, the fight for a better future is just getting started.

I’m so proud of all the HCPSS students who made their voices heard and voted to elect me as your SMOB. Lastly, to my fellow candidate, Antonio, I want to commend you on a fantastic campaign with thoughtful ideas; I’m honored to have worked alongside you and have called you a fellow advocate, speaker, and, most importantly, a dear friend—you have always had the best interests of our HCPSS students in mind, and I can’t wait to see the waves you make. :)
