Mary Ann Levant was a Library Media Specialist who worked over 30 years at HCPSS. Her last position was at the Homewood Center. Mary Ann loved Homewood's students and a scholarship has been created in her name for one graduating Homewood Center Senior who plans to attend an accredited post-secondary school. The Mary Ann Levant scholarship is a $500.00 award.
An exciting scholarship opportunity for students at Homewood who enjoy creating music, art, and poetry!
Abhinav Paul attended the Homewood Center for a little more than a year, graduating in 2004. The staff at Homewood remembers Abhinav as a person who cared about his friends and had a unique passion and creativity for music, the arts, and poetry. Abhinav was sensitive to the ways in which the world could be unfair, caring about righting the injustices in the world.
During his time at Homewood, Abhinav found personal strength and life meaning through the arts. He was able to express his thoughts and feelings through this medium. To celebrate his life, his parents want to encourage others to cultivate their passion in music, arts, and poetry. The family of Abhinav has established the Abhinav Paul Foundation to assist students to further their interests in the arts. The Foundation will provide financial assistance to students at Homewood for art supplies, fine arts classes, or for renting an instrument for lessons. Participating students will be recognized on a plaque that will be displayed in the front office at Homewood.
Students may apply for assistance from the Foundation by completing an application and forwarding it to the Guidance Department at the Homewood Center. Upon receipt of the application, a committee, which includes family members and staff members will review the applications to determine how to apply the funds and provide mentors. Students may contact the committee through their school counselors. Questions can be directed to the School Counseling Office.
This scholarship is offered in loving memory of Mary Ann Levant, a dedicated educator who gave in abundance throughout her career to the Howard County Public School System. Applicants must plan to attend or take a class at a two- or four-year college/university or trade school to further their educational interests.
